Kolkata, India – Former Mr. Universe 1952 turns 100 years old. Manohar Aich celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday surrounded by three generations of his family, all the way down to his great grandchildren.
Mr. Aich credits his longevity to living a healthy lifestyle and doesn’t smoke or drink. He minimizes stress and focuses on happiness.
His diet consists of fruits, vegetables, milk, rice, lentils and fish. This is a stark contrast to the more commonly excepted bodybuilding diet of mainly red meat and chicken, which are high in protein. With protein being essential for muscle growth.
Mr. Aich started bodybuilding when he was imprisoned in the 1940s for opposing Britain’s continued colonial rule of India. Standing at just 4 feet, 11 inches, Mr. Aich earned the nickname of “Pocket Hercules.”
After his release, he began competing as a bodybuilder, and earned success in international competitions, eventually winning the Mr. Universe title in 1952. After his return to India, he began to train future bodybuilding champions.
